SHEIN's Sustainable Shift: 65% Products Now Use Digital Dye Sublimation Printing
Renowned cross-border e-commerce giant SHEIN announced on June 27, 2024, that since the company began actively implementing digital dye sublimation textile printing technology in 2018, replacing traditional screen printing methods, over 65% of SHEIN products now utilize this advanced printing technique as of June 2024.
This technological shift has allowed SHEIN to save a cumulative total of 1.13 million tons of water. SHEIN emphasized that as part of its significant ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, the integration of digital sublimation textile printing with its flexible on-demand production supply chain will continue to drive sustainable development in the fashion industry.
What IS Digital Dye Sublimation Printing?
Digital dye sublimation printing is a technique where dyes are printed onto transfer paper and then transferred to fabrics to create vibrant and durable designs.
The process starts with creating a digital design on a computer. This design is printed onto special transfer paper using sublimation inks. When heat and pressure are applied, the inks turn into gas, penetrate the fabric fibers, and bond with the material, resulting in a high-quality print.
This method significantly enhances efficiency while conserving water resources. In comparison, traditional screen printing techniques require 0.49 tons of water for every 100 meters of fabric printed.
Plus, it creates bright, vibrant colors that are hard to achieve with other methods, including screen printing.
Integrating Digital Dye Sublimation Printing with an On-Demand Production Model
The integration of digital dye sublimation fabric printers with SHEIN's on-demand production model allows for agile and flexible order adjustments based on market and sales trends.
This synergy reduces waste at the production source by enabling smaller, more customized print runs. The combined production model and philosophy help minimize resource and production waste.
In recent years, cross-border e-commerce has become a buzzword in the textile and apparel industry! Digital fabric printing has also garnered significant attention. The green and efficient production process, rapid production cycles, and capabilities for small-batch customization are all key advantages that attract investment from cross-border e-commerce capital.
From SHEIN's daily output of approximately 300,000 meters of digitally printed fabric to cross-border e-commerce platforms purchasing dye sublimation fabric printers to enhance their digital printing capabilities, the market for digital printing has expanded to new dimensions. Numerous custom platforms like HICUSTOM, SDS, and Depoga are pushing digital printing into new markets.
